The six-day-long Carnatic Music Festival organized by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) as part of the famous Car Festival also started from Wednesday at Kalpathy.The music and the car festivals are held from November 7 to 15 at the four Agraharams (Tamil Brahmin settlements) of Kalpathy in the town.In fact, the six-month long Car Festival in the 96 ‘Agraharams of the district starts with the Kalpathy Car Festival.The renovation of the temple cars (rathams) have already completed.The attraction this year is the new ratham constructed for Lord Ganapathy of Viswanatha Swamy Temple.The construction and maintenance of the roads leading to Kalpathy have also started.
The Kalpathy Ratholsavam is the most popular festival of Malabar next only to the Puri Jagannath Temple Radhayathra.Kalpathy and its 18 ‘Agraharams’ in the town got a facelift for the festivities.The temples have been white-washed and well decorated – so also the houses in the ‘Agraharams’.Thus, it is festive time for all the 96 ‘Agraharams’ in the district with the chariots getting ready to roll from November 13.For the people of these Agraharams living outside, it is a family reunion or an annual pilgrimage to their native villages.
